Rob Hilkes: Vocals, Flute, Sax& Tambourine
Rob
is an accomplished tambourine player and did his masters degree in
existential interpretive
tambourine. Rob also plays flute and piano and he will sing if you ask
nicely. Before coming to Ottawa Rob's vocal chords were part of a
six-piece acapella group "Cherry and the Pit Vipers" (their real name).
They also appeared in several musical theater productions. He can go
high-brow too, singing Beethoven's 9th and Handel's Messiah with the
Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony Orchestra.
Kim Power: Vocals, Keys, Flute & Percussion
Kim
was
raised in the tradition of Welsh choral music - rheolau
cytgord, or in normal english, everything is better with
harmony. Her past vocal experiences have included singing in and
directing school
and church choirs, as well as singing with the Gwalia Singers, the
Ottawa Welsh Choral Society, Mississippi Mudds, the Stained Glass Band,
and the Evans Trio. Kim has played and taught keyboard, flute and
recorder, made a memorable effort playing bagpipes to some roosters,
and often wonders how difficult it would be to sneak a harp into the
house unnoticed. Her most recent project is perfecting the vibra-slap
with FOAM. Sound interesting? Come see a show!
Bill Davies: Bass, Harmonica, Guitar
Bill
has been playing stringed instruments for 30+ years. He has studied
with bassist Tom McMahon and with Ottawa recording artist, producer,
teacher
and all around great guy, Shane
Simpson. In addition to providing the thump in FOAM, Bill can
also be found playing bass with the classic rock band Sweet Instincts
and guitar in church on Sundays to make up for his sinful lifestyle.
Bob Corson: Guitars, Vocals
A
guitarist since the age of twelve, Bob has been writing and playing
music for well a long time. His first attempt to live the dream led to
a stint studying music at the University of Windsor, followed by
acceptance into York University to study jazz. To make a long story
short, life is full of changes… Bob went down the 'bidness' route and
now lives the dream with FOAM.
In June 2006, Bob recorded and released "Kick Back & Relax" a collection of easy listening original compositions to help raise funds for the Ottawa Regional Cancer Foundation. Buy a copy and help cure cancer.
David Somppi: Keyboards, Accordion, Trumpet (and more stuff that we are discovering every week)
Dave
Somppi played keyboards and trumpet in high school bands and later
scared his parents by living and playing in "fine drinking
establishments" in North-West Ontario as a young adult. Although
keyboards come and go, David still uses a Leslie 145 he acquired in the
mid 70's. As a founding member of the Ballygiblin Music Society, David
has also organized and promoted performances featuring the best in
Canadian folk and blues artists.
Gary Marsh: Drums and other explosives
Gary
has been playing professionally since 1975 and has played in a variety
of bands both in Europe and Canada. His style of playing is as varied
as the bands he has been a part of and have included rock and roll, top
40 material, blues, and new country music. Highlights of his career so
far include opening for Bill Haley and the Comets, Trooper, and Vanity
Fair. Gary also did a tour with a band called Joker through British
Columbia and his last band, called 'Cross Country' was based out of the
Pembroke area. Gary can also be heard sometimes jamming with other
bands around Ottawa.
